Handwashing is one of the top measures to lessen the spread of infection, especially in a healthcare facility. A nosocomial infection is a term used when a patient gets an infection while in a healthcare setting. The link and infographic below reviews the basics of handwashing. It is important that you advocate for yourself and speak up if you notice that a healthcare professional is not washing their hands before examining you. Please let me know if you have any questions. https://www.cdc.gov/clean-hands/about/hand-hygiene-for-healthcare.html
