JerseyGal Check-In 09/13/2025
This is my first time posting on this feed. I was shocked to find out that I have now been diagnosed with both bronchiectasis and NTM. I am scheduled for a bronchoscopy shortly to obtain samples. Has anyone had adverse effects from this procedure, such as infection, etc.? I am pretty anxious about this procedure. Appreciate any feedback here, thanks.

I’m a doctor and I was a little nervous too but it was a piece of cake. They spray a local anesthetic in your nose and then the back of your throat and give you a little light IV sedation. I knew they were putting something in my nose and down my windpipe, but it didn’t bother me one bit. So, I know I will have to have these from time to time and now I’m not bothered by that fact at all.
Welcome JerseyGal......I have not had the procedure but I'm sure someone who has will have an answer for you. Lots of support here

If you were diagnosed with NTM based on sputum samples, did you ask your doctor why additional samples are needed? Just curious. I try to avoid procedures when possible, but in some cases it could be the best option. Best of luck to you.
