🍂 Your Autumn Survival (and Thrival!) Checklist 🍂
The air is cooler, the leaves are crunchier, and pumpkin spice is sneaking into everything. While you’re pulling out sweaters and wondering how many pumpkin pies are “too many,” it’s also a good time to get yourself ready for the season.
Here are a few friendly reminders to keep you breathing easier this fall:
✅ Get your “armor” (aka vaccines)
Flu shot? ✅
Pneumonia vaccine? ✅ (if your doc recommends it)
RSV? ✅
COVID booster? ✅
Think of it as your seasonal power-up pack. 💪
✅ Outsmart flare-ups
Cold, dry air? Scarf it up. Literally--wrap one around your nose and mouth.
Smoke, burning leaves, or strong scents? Treat them like your nosy neighbor: avoid when possible.
Germs? Hand sanitizer is your new BFF.
Dust and mold indoors? Show them the door (with a little cleaning).
And yes, even dancing to your favorite song in the living room counts as exercise. 🕺
✅ Plan ahead with meds
Tired of constant trips to the pharmacy? Ask your doctor about 90-day refills. Because when it’s snowing sideways, no one wants to trek out for a 30-day bottle.
✅ Review your Action Plan
Your Bronchiectasis Action Plan is like your personal “game manual.” Take a quick look so you know exactly what to do if symptoms start acting up.
🍁 Most of all, go easy on yourself. Take it one step (or one pumpkin spice latte) at a time. We’re all in this together--and cheering you on through every season!

Great info Brandon and Katie. Thanks👍
This is a great post, Brandon. Really informative. Thanks for adding!
Not long ago, we lost a dear friend here in our community to RSV, and it really hit home. 💔 For those living with bronchiectasis and NTM, RSV can be so much more than “just a virus”—it can trigger dangerous flare-ups and even lead to hospital stays.
That’s why it’s so important to ask your doctor about the RSV vaccine. While it doesn’t prevent RSV completely, it can lessen the chance of serious illness, and every bit of protection helps. We want to keep each other safe and do all we can so we don’t lose anyone else. 💛
Brandon,
Yes, RSV can have a greater impact on people who have underlying lung conditions . I received my RSV shot two years ago- it is a one time shot, not a series of shots. Below is information from the CDC on RSV : https://www.cdc.gov/rsv/index.html
Hello! Below is an article, from VeryWellHealth on timeline for RSV Symptoms: https://www.verywellhealth.com/what-to-know-about-rsv-transmission-and-symptoms-8364840
Don't forget! Good hand hygiene is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs and protect your health. Regularly washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds removes bacteria and viruses that can cause illness
Such a good reminder! Just being careful about not touching your face or nose when you’re out, plus regular handwashing, can really help cut down on infections.
